Second accusation of racism

This makes twice that someone has read one of my stories and come to the conclusion that I am racist.

And I have always thought that my stories involving Brigadier-Captain Azikiwe would get me slapped with a racism tag, but so far it's been a law enforcement story both times.

I wonder why this is? I had thought that maybe the occasional reader would see "Texas Peace Officer" and find me automatically Guilty Of Racism Until Proven Innocent due to the Southern Cop Stereotype, but I don't really see any clues in this story to point to me being a Texas cop.

How odd.

And I hate to break it to her, but while that story involves some violence, it doesn't come close to the level of 'sickening' that I am capable of.

The pen that writes humour can, if it so wishes, produce tales of violence that have given people nightmares.

Mr. Critter lived a violent life of crime. He lived by violence and he died by violence. That is a fact. Getting your hanes into a half-hitch over it isn't going to change that fact in any way.

And that, as they say, is that.

Blogging may be light the next couple of days, folks. Looks like I am set to become an uncle again by way of C-Section either tomorrow or Friday -- coincidentally enough by the same sister-in-law that set me straight the last time a reader labelled me a racist.

How's that for a co-inky-dink?

See y'all when I see you.

I saw no mention of race in the critter article. If the complaining lady thinks critter equals minority she is the racist.

Reading the post again I can see where someone might draw assumptions on the critters ethnicity by the language he reportedly used. Again the assumption is racist.

Looks like the lady doing the complaining needs to take a long look in the mirror.

Your sister in law is right.

Keep right on doing what you do best.

Hammer's right... I carefully re-read the post and saw no mention of Mr. Critter's race. His language could make someone think he's black. The mention of him having many children could make someone think he's Mexican. Or it could be another point in the black column, I suppose. But his race is never mentioned. Anyone who assumes his race based on these things is buying into a stereotype... and who's the racist there?

I love reading your stories, and I don't see anything offensive about them. You do bring a touch of humor to situations that most people wouldn't think are funny at all, but most people are too uptight, anyway.

Congrats on gettin' yerself another niece or nephew! I hear they're great for folks who want the grandparents benefits of spoiling the kid and then sending them home, but aren't ready to be grandparents yet.

What Hammer said....

He said it better than I would have so I will just suggest people read his post twice.

Gotta third what hammer said. And second what phoenix stated. Someone's got their knickers in a serious twist if they find the story "racist and sickeningly violent". Or maybe that's just reflecting their pre-conceived notion.

Chalk up another one who thinks that Mollym64 is the racist - you mentioned NOTHING that even hinted at the race (other than perhaps language used... and anyone can say things like that).

Ignore racists like that.

I truly don't get it either.
Maybe it's because I'm Scandinavian, and miss the finer points of critter-lingo/critter-life that seemed to be a markers of ethnicity for that lady.

When I read the story, I pictured the guy as a white guy, it seemd to fit with the description in the post. I also read the comments, and the trackbacks to it, but never thought different. I actually had to follow the links to see what post she ment. So I reread it, and I still dont see anything...

Some people will just scream the "r"-word any chance they get. Sometimes I think they enjoy the sound of their voice but cant sing worth a ****... :-)

Bah, blow them off. I haven't read the complaint (my mama taught me to never take candy from strangers or cookies from strange websites), but the only hints of Mr. Critter's race were so subtle I didn't even see them until I was looking for it. And even then, I'm not convinced the evidence supports a conclusion regarding Mr Critter's race. My minds eye saw a white critter take two in the chest the first go round.

Sometimes, individuals spend so much time looking for racism, it becomes all they can see.

I failed to find anything that was racist, and I read it twice.

Having lived in the Dallas/Arlington/Ft Worth area for several years, I can honestly say that the post could just have easily been refering to 'white trash' as to anybody else.

In the fine movie 'Tombstone', I think the charater of Doc Holiday said it best:

"For some people, this world ain't EVER gonna be right."

Methink tis time to blow this one off. Keep up the good work Lawdog....everytime I read your post, I feel like I'm back in Dallas.

Uh, Mr. Critter was white in my head. As if it mattered regardless, Mr. Critter got what was coming to him regardless.

I think the problem with the people who read you and cry "racist!" just have a problem with truth hurting.

Money quote, right there. I read that story at least twice and never thought about the race of the critter. I've shared it with a number of people, none of them mentioned it either.

Keep on keeping on.

I have a rather vivid imagination when reading and as I read the story of Mr. Critter's final moments and the entire time I pictured him as a white male, approximately 6'2" somewhere in the 280-300 lb range with shaggy dark hair (but not too long) and a goatee.

If one assumed Mr. Critter was black I would have to say the reader who made such an assumption would be the racist.

Zundfolge said...

Ya know, I've thought back and I've NEVER assumed ANY of the "characters" in LawDog's anecdotes were black.

IN FACT, I assumed he was in a small town in Texas where there would be a smaller than average population of "African" Americans.

As for other stories, I've pictured Opal as looking kind of like a heavier and younger version of Kathy Bates.

Maybe I'm so racist that I don't even allow black people into my imagination or something

I'm with Hammer & Pheonix, I found no trace of race in the story as I have found persons of all colors & creed to have large broods and use such language.

Forum Poster needs to check his/her ow racism at the door.

Lawdog,

Why do you care what people think, you know you arn't a racist, and your readers know you arn't as well. I saw no mention of said critters ethnic background in your post.

keep up the good work.

I just read the rest of the posts on that forum, seems the other persons there were giving that one woman the smackdown fer ya.

No worries.

BTW, she thinks Critter is a derogatory racial term (I don't think she lives in the real world)

Comment from that board...
" In referring to human beings as "critters" -- i trying to parrot urban-speak -- well, you just can't help but reveal your racist beliefs and your condoning violence as a solution."

Ah, one of the Rainbow Children - nothing to do with color, but referring to her belief in leprechauns, fuzzy bunnies, and Bambi. Another idiot who believes that violence isn't a solution.
Obviously didn't major in engineering, or any field requiring critical thought...

Congrats, 'Uncle 'Dawg'!

LawDog, don't worry about the retarded, err, I meant "mentally differently able" author of the post. What I'd like to know, how the hell was she able to figure out the "racist" part???? And since you're racist, would she kindly explain AGAINST WHICH RACE???? I don't recall anywhere in that story there being any mention of ANYONE'S RACE.... Oh, wait, she might be a liberal, judging from the condemnation of "horrible violence"! That being the case, no logic applies. Sorry, my fault!!!!

"Violence, or threat of violence, has solved EVERY major human conflict since the begining of human history" Of course, liberals don't like to hear that.....

Oh, congratulations on you becoming an uncle.... although I guess you didn't have a part in it! :) (HOPEFULLY!!!!)

Illegitimi Non Carborundum "Don't let the bastards grind you down" (a pseudo-Latin phrase). Don't pay no never mind to folks that don't have a clue. My advice for things like this is: "Never try to teach a pig to sing. It's a waste of time and it annoys the pig."

Keep up the great work. I look you up every day just for the fun of it. Please don't disappoint me to satisfy some fugitive from real life.

I saw no mention of race in that entire article. It's obviously her ego and self-centered focus shrouding a clear intrepretation of what you've described.

wow....how retarded!
Keep up the GREAT, NON RACIST work, Law'Dawg'!

I've never read any of your stories and come across anything I'd consider even remotely racist.

Congratulations on the new niece or nephew

What a strange lady - clearly needs more to worry about if she finds that offensive

Jon said...

Critters is derogatory? I guess the reruns of the Beverly Hillbillys will be banned. Elly Mae had plenty of critters, amongst other things.

Zundfolge said...

So I brought this whole debacle up in another forum and some enlightened person explained to me how its racist.

See "Critter" is OBVIOUSLY "white racist code" for "Coon" (which we all know is white racist code for "The N Word")

Furthermore, white cops (especially from Texas) are so deeply racist that many don't even realize it, so they NEVER tell stories about white criminals ... again, "Criminal" is code for "Darkie" because in the minds of these White Racist Cops from Texas ALL BLACKS ARE CRIMINALS AND ALL CRIMINALS ARE BLACKS so ANY story about a criminal is obviously about black people.

Its so simple, I don't know why I couldn't see it before (must be my racism addled white brain that blocked these obvious truths from my consciousness). I feel so silly.

Maybe I should write Jessie Jackson a letter begging for forgiveness (I'd suggest LawDog do so as well, but he's clearly too far gone).

Let's see, I did not go back to re read but I seem to recall that the first time this happened your sis in law think it was said something like, "do we know this person" and you said " no" and she said "so why do we care what she thinks"? seems like good advice to me however badly I misquoted.

Yeah, the first time I read the post, I pictured the guy as a white guy too.....

Wait!!! I got it!!!!! The Liberal Moonbat pictured Mr. Critter as white too. She figured LAWDOG was BLACK!!!! Yeah, that's it, Law Dog is Black and racist against White Critters. See, the whole time we thought he was white (or simply didn't care what race he is) and the Moonbat was smarter than us all!!!! Not only she figured out Mr. Critter's race, she also figured out LawDog's!!!! .... and of course, as all of us know, once an All Knowing Liberal Moonbat forms an opinion, it is impossible to change it......

Keep up the good work and write more stories LawDog. In something like 6 months and probably thousands of readers, you have been called a racist TWICE!!!! Not bad at all!!!!

Anonymous said...

Yo yo yo!!!! I is thinking this story is racist!!! That be why the RACIST WHITE cops took the gun away from the BLACK neighbor who be shooting on WHITE Mr. Critter, y'all see??

Hey, since the story DOES NOT in ANY WAY hint at the race of ANYONE in it (the comment about Mr Critter's Baby Momma can just as easily be applied to White Trash - they use it just as much as the Black Folks), I guess I felt free to assign races in a way to see how the story could be racist.

As for the "sickening violence"... WHERE???? There would have probably be sickening violence if the neighbor didn't use the Glock and was beaten to a pulp by Mr. Critter. There probably would have been sickening violence if Mr. Critter at some later time cought up with the school teacher and violently raped her...... but two slugs in the chest? That was, as LD said "Happy Ending" which PREVENTED with 100% certainty future acts of violance which Mr. Critter would have WITHOUT A DOUBT commited in the future on many, many people....

... so now, I guess PREVENTION of "sickening violence" is sickening....... Oh, well....

Anonymous said...

"And I hate to break it to her, but while that story involves some violence, it doesn't come close to the level of 'sickening' that I am capable of."

I knew you were holding out on us.

Jon said...

Actually, I found the post about abandoned puppies eviscerated by coyotes more sickening than a critter being shot in self defense. Does this make me a moonbat?

Flo said...

I would have thanked Mr. Neighbor for assuring that Mr. Critter didn't end up in my ER. And if Miss Molly thought that was violent, she definitely wouldn't want to hear any of my stories about Friday night in the ER on a full moon. I certainly hope she never has to pay a visit.

I don't think you should waste a thought on anyone that considers you racist or your stories violent. That's not the purpose or the point of your stories, and if someone can't appreciate the entertainment they provide, bugger them.

Rorschach said...

Just an FYI, John Hawkins at RightWing News picked up the critter story. No mention of race was made, he merely copied and pasted from Lawdog's post.

LawDog,

Hey, I just found out I'm a racist, too! I call all of our Congresscritters, Congresscritters.

Surely, it doesn't matter that I call white Congresscritters-Congresscritters. That just shows that I'm racist to my own race as well as others! Equally opportunity racism!

JeanC said...

I've no idea where that twit came up with the notion that LawDog is racist. Hubby and I must also be racists since, like byron quick, we also refer to our Congresscritters as Congresscritters :P

Keep writing down your stories LawDog, they are wonderful and bring a smile to my face and usually a drenched keyboard if'n I happen to be drinking coffee while reading them LOL
