Normal? What's that?

The Christmas tree at Rancho LawDog is now up. Looks very nice, very stately, yes?

That's because you haven't gotten a close look. Those lights aren't red -- they're pink. And, since Mom was in charge of Operation Decorate the Tree, they're not what you might think of as ... normal.

You know, there are people who go through life completely surrounded by predictability. There are people that you know exactly what's going to be on their Christmas tree, because their tree is going to be very normal.

I pity those people.

Somewhere, somehow, Mom found:

Pink flamingo Christmas tree lights!!!

How cool is that?! Are you not jealous?!

Merry Christmas, everybody.

That's two computers you owe me now, LD. You really should warn a person before they spew hot coffee forth in a futile effort to keep it from snorting up a nasal cavity from laughing...

err... computer keybords, rather...

(I really should learn to preview everything I post...)

Those flamingo lights are super-cool!

Now all it needs are the shotgun shell Christmas lights, and the chili pepper lights!

Considering that the factory that made the Pink Flamingos for yards ceased production just a short time ago, it seems fitting.

I'm quite jealous! That's exactly the sort of thing I'd do to Christmas trees, if only other people would let me. I suppose it might help if it were my own tree...

Your mom rocks!

Explains... so... MUCH.

Woot!

I have Snoopy Christmas lights. Except my parents seem to have misplaced them this year...

I have John Deere tractor lights on my tree. Also HO scale trucks and airplanes as ornaments.

*ahem*

The traditional (and likely) source of flamingo Christmas lights along with The Punching Nun, Spud Guns, surreal Chinese and Indian propaganda posters, and the infamous Librarian Action Figure (with Shushing! action, just like the real thing), is Archie Mcphee:"

www.mcphee.com

Which, ATM, seems to be down. You can see a profile of the physical store at:

http://www.roadsideamerica.com/attract/WASEAarchiemcphee.html

Their print catalog is an excellent source of merriment for the discerning coisonneur. I'm sure the LawDog tribe will find *ample* use for certain items when it comes to the local Shia Baptist townspeople.

There are over 3,000 flamingos in the house where I write this. Not mine, hers. You think YOU got a pink flamingo tree?! You got nuttin'! This place glows pink with all the lights off so you can see it from out on the Interstate.

Normalcy is another term for 'lack of imagination' in my lexicon. Then again, I've been known to be a bit 'different'.

I love the lights.

Oh yes, I know what you mean.

There are three trees decorated in the house as I type, another to go in the kitchen tomorrow.

And the chili pepper lights are on the main tree.

As she has already completely decorated two living trees outside, that'll make six.

...and she still casts a hungry eye when we drive by tree stands.

Ahem.

LD, as I sit here looking at my tree, I can see the following ornaments: USS Enterprise (NCC1701), USS Voyager, USS Defiant, Romulan Bird of Prey, USS Voyager, Tie fighter, X-wing Fighter, Death Star, Shuttlecraft Galileo... and the other Star Trek & Star Wars ornaments can't be seen because they're on the far side of the tree.

Normal is a setting on my washing machine.

BTW... I'm Jewish. ;-)

My father is an avid reader and dragged me away from our own Christmas decorating to show me these lights. They made my night! I started collecting flamingo objects by accident, but I'm now a big fan. That tree is wonderful.
