You want to try that one in Texas?

By way of Misha, we find an interesting little video out of Portland, Oregon.

I link to it, rather than embedding it here, because, quite frankly, the video infuriates me and I find that I just can't bring myself to place a video of treason on my site.

Since Treason is defined in the Constitution of the United States as "giving Aid and Comfort" to our enemies -- and since I can't think of anything more comforting to our enemies than seeing US soldiers burned in effigy by US citizens -- feel free to stuff any accusations of hyperbole.

The next time some Leftist tells you that the Left "supports the troops" and is "only against the war" -- feel free to call that individual a damned liar.

As for the arrogant little pismires with the matches and the lighter fluid -- please, please, I'll get down on my knees and beg you, please try that one in rural Texas.

Even better, try that one anywhere in North Texas. I swear to Odin, it would be worth the jail time to wade in amongst you little bastards with a sjambok or a bullwhip.

Even fascism looks like a pleasant alternative to the average protestor.

It's things like those idiots on the video that occasionally make me ashamed to be a Portlander. Please believe that most people in Oregon are rational, patriotic, and entirely contemptuous of those kinds of demonstrations. I'm proud that my dad & stepmom were career Navy, my grandfather was a Marine during WWII, my great-aunt was a WAVE, my best friend served 13 years in the Navy, and my stepsons are both currently-serving Airmen.

I saw it, I had to turn it off after about 15 seconds.

I bet their parents are proud.

Sometimes I long for the good old days when they would turn the dogs and fire hoses on these types.

I was paying less attention to the burning soldier than I was to the American flag one of the protesters was holding. It was flown in distress, burned, and then dropped on the ground. Short of urinating on it, I'm not certain what could have been done to further dishonor the flag.

If these people hate their country so much, why don't they go and actually fight for the enemy in Iraq and Afghanistan? I'm certain that the fanatics would be gleefully happy for more bodies to strap bombs too - and then the soldiers could, (quite legally) shoot at them. Problem solved.

I would like to second what lil said. Not all of us from Portland are like that.

In fact, I would venture to say that a large number of those protesters are former Californians who recently moved to the area, just because I hate all these Californians who move up here.

Yeah, that was pretty disgusting and pretty disturbing. Could you imagine that they had the balls to do that, but yet not the balls to show their own faces, typical ultra leftist. I did note one wearing the red star on his back, that was the most idsturbing thing of it all. Then again, no that was not the most disturbing thing, the most disturbing thing is that no one in the crowd did anything, even though some of them looked to be somewhat shocked. Too bad that no one had at least thought to call a nearby recruiting station to let the military recruiters know what was happening.

Glenn Bartley said...

Oh, before I forget, as to what Dominique said about getting worse than peeing on the flag - well it was reported on the radio news here in NY that one of the jokers out there actually dropped his draws and pooped on the flag. Maybe it was a different protest, but I think it was the same. When that happened, the worst thing imaginable also happened, no one kicked the poopers ass.

Bill said...

Please, Dear God, send those very same morons to a college campus here in western OK, and let them attempt to repeat this protest.

what I meant to say was I made it about as long as Hammer. I too turned it off rather than give them my time and attention.

Wrong, very wrong.

Courageous of 'em to burn a soldier in effigy and desecrate a flag to show the strength of their convictions...and then not have the balls to show their freaking faces. Punks.

I am reminded by your comment here of some words of wisdom by the patron saint of all good thinking men: Rudyard Kipling. I would like to print them here:

I went into a public-'ouse to get a pint o'beer,
The publican 'e up an' sez, "We serve no red-coats here."
The girls be'ind the bar they laughed an' giggled fit to die,
I outs into the street again an' to myself sez I:

O it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, go away";
But it's ``Thank you, Mister Atkins,'' when the band begins to play,
The band begins to play, my boys, the band begins to play,
O it's ``Thank you, Mr. Atkins,'' when the band begins to play.

I went into a theatre as sober as could be,
They gave a drunk civilian room, but 'adn't none for me;
They sent me to the gallery or round the music-'alls,
But when it comes to fightin', Lord! they'll shove me in the stalls!

For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, wait outside";
But it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide,
The troopship's on the tide, my boys, the troopship's on the tide,
O it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide.

Yes, makin' mock o' uniforms that guard you while you sleep
Is cheaper than them uniforms, an' they're starvation cheap;
An' hustlin' drunken soldiers when they're goin' large a bit
Is five times better business than paradin' in full kit.

Then it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy how's yer soul?"
But it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll,
The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll,
O it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll.

We aren't no thin red 'eroes, nor we aren't no blackguards too,
But single men in barricks, most remarkable like you;
An' if sometimes our conduck isn't all your fancy paints:
Why, single men in barricks don't grow into plaster saints;

While it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, fall be'ind,"
But it's "Please to walk in front, sir," when there's trouble in the wind,
There's trouble in the wind, my boys, there's trouble in the wind,
O it's "Please to walk in front, sir," when there's trouble in the wind.

You talk o' better food for us, an' schools, an' fires an' all:
We'll wait for extry rations if you treat us rational.
Don't mess about the cook-room slops, but prove it to our face
The Widow's Uniform is not the soldier-man's disgrace.

For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Chuck him out, the brute!"
But it's "Saviour of 'is country," when the guns begin to shoot;
An' it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' anything you please;
But Tommy ain't a bloomin' fool - you bet that Tommy sees!

Ya know, why do you repeatedly insist on disparaging all liberals every time some extreme group does something stupid? Some understand the concept of supporting the troops with out agreeing with the CinC, not all believe in gun control, etc.

Don't buy into the "Us versus Them" that the Politicians push for votes and the journalists chases for ratings. The grey in the middle is where the real world lives.

Tower Tales said...

Well Anonymous,
that grey area got a heck of a lot smaller today. The time will come one day, when you're going to have to either stand WITH America, or stand against her. All your philsophical arguments won't be worth a tinkers damn. Personally, I hope you stand with us, help sort out the seditionists and then we can continue the debate on how we should run our country...but its hard to drain the swamp when you're up to your butt in alligators, so lets us make our home safe again, THEN we can pick someone to run it.

Since the word 'liberal' appears absolutely nowhere in this post, I'm not exactly sure just what the hell you're getting at.

Unless, of course, you seeing the word 'Leftist' but reading it as 'liberal'.

As I watched that, I couldn't help but think how much those nitwits looked like the Klan burning a cross. They could take a lesson in songwriting from Oh Brother Where Art Thou, though.

I watched this earlier elsewhere. My mind keeps returning to the abject cowardice of these people who don't dare to show their faces. I'm surprised they didn't don burkhas.

I'm saddened that these products of modern American education don't understand basic political terms. Terms like "anarchist" and "fascist" come to mind, because they're not anarchists, and they're not protesting fascism. They're communists (pretty much the exact opposite of anarchism), who would regard actual fascism as just a good beginning.

LD,
Just as a guess what do you think some hells angles would do to these guys if they caught them burning that flag...? A squad of recon? An army squad?

Food for thought and a few giggles.

RUMINT says that they are The Usual Susects around here, "anarchists out of Eugene." It's always "Anarchists from Eugene." WTO, anti-war, anti-Bush, anti-Evil-gas-Sucking-SUV, whatever, "Anarchists from Eugene." Last year we were on our way sotuh, to a family weeding in Salem, and saw a protest in support of Lieutenant Potato at Ft Lewis. Now, since 9/11 there have been daily shows of support on the bridge over I5 at the Ft Lewis main gate, people waving flags and banners, "Honk If You Love Our Troops", that sort of thing, but this one was at the back gate, near the "correctional facility." One of the little bastages was waving a Commie Flag. Fortunately, Oregon does not make it easy for residents of WA to get an OR CCW, so I would have had to turn around and go home to deal with this $4!t, and Mrs. Drang talked me out of it.

By coincidence, we were in OR last week, in Seaside, the ocean-side resort near where Lewis and Clark wintered. Good thing I was nowhere near THESE shenanigans, I'd have had to go 4-wheeling in the Evil Gas Sucking SUV...

Maybe it's just the cranky bastid in me, but I say, join them, bring some extra gasoline to douse things with; oops, I spilled some on you mr dumbass protestor, you better not light that flag now, or you'll be a roman candle too!

I will definitely agree with what Lil said... Not all of us Portlanders are like that... I may not be for the war, but I'll be damned if I will do something as assinine as go after the soldiers who were sent there. They, of ALL people, deserve our respect, our support, and our love and hope. They chose to follow the law that they swore to when they signed in, and I have nothing but respect for them. I am not that strong, and I know this - which is why I did not join the military. These are men and women who understood that, because of what they swore, they would not have the same freedoms the rest of us enjoy. They would be forced to go places they'd rather not, do things they'd rather not do, and see things that no one should have to see. And they have done it all with bravery, honor, and their very best. I only wish that Gee Dubbya would show the same amount of courage and distinction.

Each and every soldier deserves to be respected, honored, and recognized for their sacrifice of personal freedoms. My ex is in the Army - and while there is no love lost between us (for reasons outside military ones), I still respect him for choosing to be in the Army. It is a difficult choice, and one he did not hesitate to make.

I couldn't bring myself to finish watching this video.

In part, I must admit, because these @$$holes are too stupid to create flame (even with a lighter and lighter fluid for Pete's Sake) for several minutes.

Really, though. They weren't that smart to begin with.

I do agree, though. It'd sure be nice if these morons would try that in South Texas, too. We civilians gotta have our chance!

I have nothing but agreement on the main missive of your post, LD. What I wanted to say I thought it was neat to see a fellow sjambok enthusiast.

They don't go and fight for 'em over there because they're too busy fighting for 'em over here. And if they keep it up, we'll probably get to fight both the protester crowd and the jihadis over here.

"I did note one wearing the red star on his back,..."

I've seen photos of other protests... the commies coaching the college kid protesters. So contrary to popular "wisdom", communists ARE still the enemy.

As a non American I could not bring myself to watch this, I am one of those that belive that what the US Serviceman is doing today is making the world safer and I pray for them every day, for the forces of evil are not just of this world. I just wish these people that are so against the war against terror would realise they are playing into the hands of the enemy.

Yeah bunch of raving nitwits right there. I basically think of these types as rebel-without-a-cause. Sure they pick a cause, but they're more in it to be against something, anything, than for any other reason. Seen them around here too, different causes, same types.

I'm on the "left" of the political spectrum myself btw. A socialist to be precise. Basically I believe in human and civil rights and in having a strong wellfare system. And I'm somewhat anti-corporate in that I believe they have too much political and law-making influence.

Portland Tribune comments section has several comments from the moonbats about their first amendment rights.
Just checked:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Doesn't say a thing about a private citizen putting a stomp-down on idiots. Way I see it, if you aren't a congresscritter, why, think of it as environmentalism in action! Just taking out the trash, officer.

As I recall from my class on political science, there are some public speach types that *aren't* protected as "free speach". Public speach that incites a riot isn't protected. Neither is "fighting words" which is defined as "any speach that illicits an emmediate and violent response from an otherwise rational person". The problem is, and considering our legal and political climate, who's going to define what a rational person is and who is rational to whom.

I really wish the wing-nut content of my city would cease to be so visible. Gotta love those people who are so willing to denounce their own country in as emotionally vicious ways as they can, while still expecting to be swaddled in all the rights of this country.
They may have the right to say it, but I bet they'd be surprised if someone ever expected them to bleed for it. Brainless cowards.
