After a gentle noodge

I discover that I have been remiss in not mentioning The Texas CHL Forum.

If you're in Texas, and you have questions regarding Texas gun laws in general, and CHLs in particular, I'll bet they can either answer the question, or point you in the right direction.

Thanks, Bro. Dawg!

The good folks there are indeed a fountain of good information about the law, practical day-to-day stuff, and political issues concerning concealed carry in Texas.

:-) It is a great place to hang out.

you're always welcome to come by and hang out yourself. We could always use another well reasoned, and experienced LEO to weigh in occasionally.

Hey LD, thanks for the TX CHL forum. I don't live in TX, but I did register, as I want info about guns in general, and especially for women and self-defense. I am hoping that Hubby and I will be moving back to FL in the future, and they have CCW laws there. As a matter of fact, 15% of them have been obtained by women.

When I was much younger, I had opportunities to shoot at targets, and I was quite good at it. However, I am older now, and I have no idea if I could even hit the broad side of the barn. I also was only allowed to SHOOT the gun, I was never allowed to load it, carry it, or touch it without an adult presence.

Unfortunately, when it comes to thinking of carrying a gun for self-defense/preservation, that logic has left me severely undereducated, and I would not own, much less carry a gun with the minimal amount of gun education and experience I have right now. I am a firm believer in not using a firearm unless you know your gun, how to clean it/take care of it, how to store it safely, how to shoot it/handle it safely, and you MUST practice, practice, practice.

So, thank you again for the link, as I can see I can ask questions, get good/right answers, and also get links to other sites that will help me out. The only thing better than this would be if I had someone with that knowledge as a neighbor, and could learn from them.

Something a bit off-topic here, but if anyone is also into knives (as well as pistols), this is a website which links the knife laws of all 50 states:

for Kiki B:

Yes, TexasCHLforum is a good resource for us ladies... :)
and while CorneredCat.com may not be an actual neighbor, you may find her website to be a real neighborly resource as well.

Many LEO types hang out there as well as some of us TX DPS CPO's who are just a tad bit different than just plain dispatchers! :)
