Something Tookish woke up inside him ...

I have seen the teaser trailer for The Hobbit, and after listening to the song of the dwarves that I have read so many times in print ...

... I am experiencing a serious urge to gather up my hat, walking-stick and handkerchief, and run to catch up with the dwarves.

I want to have an ale in Hobbiton, walk the halls of Rivendell, explore Mirkwood, watch the sun come up from the docks of Lake-town, and take on Smaug -- preferably with a Stinger MANPADS.

*sigh*

Instead, I guess I'll just go to work.

Bugger.

Oh my, I see that Mr. Jackson has lost none of his touch. Excuse me while I go watch that another 10 times before pulling out the LoTR DVDs to hold me over...

Does anyone wonder why these books have such a following? And now the movies!

Well, if the trip is out of the question, may I suggest a good second breakfast with lots of mushrooms, a pint of homebrew, a walk around Hobbiton and a good hot bath? ;-)

Wow...it's going to be good! Of course, then we all have to wait again, for part II to be released.

I know what you mean. I know I'll never walk in Middle-Earth in real life, but I went for the next best thing, and play Lord of the Rings Online, and I've had a blast doing it; playing a dwarf mostly, I've fought beside Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli, watched as Gandalf exposed a troll to sunlight and petrification, walked with Frodo in Rivendell as he struggled with the decision to take the ring to Mordor, visited the dark island where Gollum lived for decades uncounted...and many other things, besides. For a fan of the books/movies, it's a great opportunity to explore what Tolkien created.

Aye 'Dog,

I'm Right there with that but I figure that Smaug is going to need some more serious medication aka the 57mm Recoilless rifle or that 90mm recoilless. Dragon AT would be nice but you just get one shot. I have the feeling that Smaug isn't going down to anything less than concentrated high explosives liberally applied.

May have to check out that LOTR online.

Hey, at least you have the occasional Goblin to deal with....

And he has Simon, the troll, apparently.

Of course, once LD deletes the offending comment, mine will make no sense, and I'll look the fellow needing exposed to sunlight.

You're still taking on Smaug. And his henchpeople. Besides, you'd probably not fit inside the Inn at Hobbitton because you're too tall.

I knew there was yet another reason I like you, that I just couldn't identify with available information.

I'll settle for a nice little hole on Bagshot Row and a nightly half-pint at the Green Dragon, thank you.

1967, rifle instructor at a summer camp in Vermont with five 8-year olds in the bunks. Did the hobbit from memory all summer long to get them to bed. I was 24 and had read the book enough times I could do whole paragraphs. Olde - and now Older - Force
